Comments: The recent snowstorm has brought many branches down on the trail system. The staff has been out all week pruning and picking up the debris to get the trails back into tip top shape. Skiers are encouraged to pick up branches as they go to get the trails to excellent condition.

• Two miles of cross-country ski trails lit by candles and moonlight.

Comments: All the Drummond Ski Trails were renovated and tracks reset. The 2-3" of new snow was mixed with the renovated base to clean everything up after the past ten days of use. Some tracks are deeper than others. The base is firm and about 12". In the woods there is still about 24" of snow. Thanks Hans.

Comments: This trail varies in difficulty with plenty of easy skiing in the first loop and the west half of the upper loop. Portions of the upper loop and cutoffs on the east side of the lower loop provide more challenge for the advanced and expert skiers. There is a three-sided shelter with a fire ring provided as a warming shelter on the west side of the upper loop. Flambeau River State Forest, 715-332-5271.
Events: The next anticipated grooming is 2/4/10. A 1.8 km Candlelight Ski event is scheduled for Saturday, February 6, from 6 - 9 pm beginning at the Flambeau Hills parking lot on County Hwy W. Trail passes are waived during event. Campfires, food, and cooking grill available. Trail will be open to skiing, snowshoeing and hiking. Approximately 900 candles will be placed on trail. Comments: Located near Timm's Hill, Wisconsin's highest geographical point, these 9 miles of trails traverse some of the most hilly terrain in the state. The winter landscape viewed from the top of the observation tower on Timm's Hill is very special. Forests of hardwood and hemlock border the full length of the trail. This is one of the finest trail systems around. Groomed for classic and skate skiing by the High Point Ski Club. Lighted night skiing is available for groups by appointment. To get to the northern trail access point take Highway 86 east of Ogema to County Road RR, then a + mile to Timm's Lake Road. The trail begins a short distance on the left. Comments: We currently have 135 inches of snow accumulation to date. Trails are reported to be in Excellent condition. Grooming is being kept up weekly. They will be groomed and checked again this Saturday.
Events: Enjoy the warming shelter at the trail head behind Rose Wreath on No. 4 Rd off of Hwy 77. Go back in history with the histiric 20x30 rock walled mine building turned into a rustic warming hut. Come fire up the wood stove and sit on the hemlock benches.

Comments: This a very good trail for the beginning skier. Older skiers might also find the relatively flat trails just right for a daily exercise routine. The trail is scenic and passes through both pine and aspen timber. Directions: Parking is available 6 miles northeast of Phillips on Hick's Landing Road. Travel north of Phillips on Old Hwy 13, turn right on West Solberg Lake road, then turn left on Hick's Landing Road.

Comments: This very scenic trail is gentle enough for the beginner and but also offers intermediate skill level areas. Groomed for classic skiing and skating. There is a warming house at the trailhead. Directions: The trailhead is located 5 miles east of Fifield on Hwy. 70. A National Forest parking fee is required. The daily fee can be paid at the trailhead. An annual parking pass can be purchased at the Forest Service Office located on Hwy. 13 at 1170 S. 4th Avenue in Park Falls. Comments: This very scenic trail is located in the Phillips School Forest and consists of five (5) cross-country ski loops ranging from gently rolling to steep climbs and winds through a diverse forest and an open meadow. Loop 1 is an intermediate loop, loops 2, 3 & 4 are expert with uphill climbs, and loop 5 is good for beginners. There are separate trails for snowshoeing. Directions: From Hwy. 13 in Phillips, take County Road H to Big Elk Road, then turn right on North Worcester Road. You can open the gate and drive the 1/3 mile to the parking lot/trailhead.
