Comments:
The North End Snowshoe Trails are part of a cross country ski and snowshoe trail system starting from the North End Trail Head of the American Birkebeiner Trail near Cable. The snowshoe trails were established specifically for snowshoeing and are mapped and marked. There are three loops offering from a short 1.1 mile hike to hikes of almost 6 miles. The trails use a combination of old woods roads and rustic single track trail. They travel mostly cross country and take you deep into the woods. The terrain is varied, but not extremely difficult. There is a parking lot, warming building, and outhouse at the trail head. Trail options include: Ridge Trail - 1.4km, Bear Paw Trail - 3.7km, Ojibwe Trail via Ridge (direct) including Penny Lane - 4.2km, Ojibwe Trail via Ridge including Penny Lane - 4.8km; Ojibwe Trail via Bear Paw including Penny Lane - 6.7km. The North End Trails also connect to the Telemark Resort snowshoe trails via the Ojibwe Trail offering additional options including a 2 to 21/2 hour point-to-point hike starting or finishing at the North End.
